The humble beginnings of our highly-regarded spring lettuce mix. Each tray holds enough seed to plant more than 100 square feet and will feed numerous families across Central NM.

Mulch

Today we completed adding a fresh layer of mulch to our 10,000 square foot planting area for annual crops. That was 20 trips to the giant mulch pile, spreading approximately 40 cubic yards for a roughly 1-inch thick layer.

The foreground where the mulch is gray instead of tan is where we still have mulching to do.

2026 Seed Starting

We’ve written the seed starting schedule for the 2026 season on the white board in our office. We start seeds every 2 weeks from January to June. It takes seedlings between 4 to 8 weeks just to get them to the point where they are ready for outdoor planting. Plant care until harvest is even more involved and can take months.

The food you eat doesn’t happen overnight. All farmers make these kinds of commitments to our customers. We need you to make the commitment to us in return by becoming a Farm To You by Bomvida member. Stop by the Belen or ABQ location today to learn more.

Grow Little Seeds, Grow!

Farming is a continual learning process and our microclimate has been instructing us for 6 years now about what grows best. Lately, we’ve been reevaluating and redesigning how we use our hoop houses.

Bunching onions (Allium fistulosum) are perennial and self-multiply when harvested selectively. By planting them in a hoop house, we expect to be able to harvest them year round for years to come.
